Saturday, December 5th marked the end of week one of the United Nation climate negotiations. This past week has been filled with announcements and excitement. Heads of state were here last Monday, added an extra sense of optimism and increased ambition through the halls of COP21. The goal of this next week is to hammer out a negotiating text for when ministers arrive next week and begin the political process. While we expect long nights in the coming days, we still have a sense of optimism for a strong outcome here in the final week.
The 195 participating governments will begin to review the options available to them on Monday morning as we move towards to proposed end of the conference, next Friday. While not all governments are pleased with what did or did not make the most recent text, the COP continues to meet their deadlines and is moving on schedule. In today’s video, we offer a recap to what you may have missed as well as a continued faith in the process as we move on to week two.
