Newburyport Senior/Community Center 331 High St. Newburyport, MA
Storm Surge will present a discussion, titled “Storm Preparedness – Getting Ready for the Next Big Event,” at 7 p.m. Sept. 17 at the Newburyport Senior/Community Center, 331 High St. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m.
This event will include a presentation by Christopher LeClaire, Newburyport’s fire chief, and Kristin Kelleher, program director of the Climate Action Business Association. LeClaire will discuss how the community can be better prepared for extreme weather and emergencies and will address the needs of homeowners as well as residents in nursing homes and those living on Plum Island. Kelleher will focus on business owners, who must consider not only their emergency plans, but also infrastructure redundancy and protecting inventory.
The presentation will be followed by a Q&A session, during which participants can ask questions about preparing for an emergency, which can help inform city officials as to the steps they need to take to help protect the community.
Storm Surge is committed to provide communities within the Greater Newburyport area with the information needed to prepare for the impacts of extreme weather and long-term climate change. Last March, Storm Surge sponsored Debra Shepherd of Riverstone Sustainability, who spoke about “Carbon Footprint 101.”
